Teen workshop

Empowering teens in a digital world

I host teen workshops for sports teams, youth groups, school classes, and more.

Why? Because in our digital world, teens face constant distractions, comparison to unrealistic standards, and a growing sense of isolation. Constant screen time has led to a mental health crisis in adolescents and teens. More than ever, they need effective tools and strategies to cope, thrive, and find balance.

Benefits of learning skills in mindfulness and self-compassion

Research shows that self-compassion and mindfulness can boost coping skills, decision-making, and overall well-being. The curriculum I teach teens equips them with essential tools to manage stress, increase focus, and build self-kindness.

What is a teen workshop?

My teen workshops take on many formats—from one-day events in a backyard to multi-week visits to school classes.

I use a curriculum from a program called Mindful Self-compassion for Teens, developed by Karen Bluth, Ph.D., and Lorraine Hobbs, M.A.

Through engaging, interactive lessons, participants learn essential techniques to support their mental and emotional well-being. Here are key topics we cover, although curriculum varies depending on the length of our class:

  • Being kind to myself: Developing a nurturing inner voice and practicing self-kindness.
  • Paying attention on purpose: Cultivating focus and awareness in daily life.
  • Mindfulness: Learning to be present and grounded in the moment.
  • The adolescent brain: Understanding the unique changes and challenges of the teenage brain.
  • Kindness: Exploring the power of kindness towards oneself and others.
  • Common humanity: Recognizing shared experiences and the interconnectedness of all people.
  • Core values: Identifying personal values and how they guide choices and actions.
  • Silver linings: Finding gratitude and positive perspectives even in challenging situations.
  • Getting to know difficult emotions: Navigating complex emotions with awareness and acceptance.
  • Anger and the adolescent brain: Understanding the role of anger and how to respond constructively.
  • Embracing your life with gratitude: Cultivating a grateful mindset for a more fulfilling life.
  • Maintaining the practice: Building sustainable habits for ongoing mindfulness and self-compassion.
